The Mystical, Blue Blanket
From our sandy, coastline shores, to the darkest undiscovered depths of the sea bed, our precious oceans support a rich variety of life, of which is constantly relied on. Covering almost three-quarters of the surface area of our planet, these waters are home to staggering 80 percent of all life on earth hiddden beneath the waves which all contribute to maintain life on earth. The mystical blue blanket, spread across Earth, provides vital sources of protein, energy, minerals and other products put to use all over the world. It transports water masses many times greater than all rivers on land and drive weather systems. But what is more important than all this, is the biodiversity within. Fisheries provide more than 15 per cent of the global dietary intake of animal protein. Oceans and coastal areas provide invaluable ecosystem services - from tourism to protection from storms. Minute plants (known as phytoplankton) provide 50 per cent of all the oxygen on Earth. But now, in the 21st century, marine biodiversity numbers, on an international scale, are diminshing at limits unnecessary.
Without the global ocean, there would be no life on earth.
No ocean, no life. No blue, no green.
